The "PULSE" of the Gulf of Maine is a collaborative project with local New Hampshire fishermen that seeks to develop a long-term database for environmental variables in the pelagic ecosystem. We sample on a weekly basis for zooplankton, phytoplankton, hydrography and nutrients at two different environments: near-shore and off-shore. Such fine scale resolution as this will reveal interesting patterns through time that scientists have only had "snap-shots" of in the past. The data we collect here is going to be used in mathematical models that are being refined for the use of ultimately helping fishery managers predict future fishery limits. PULSE has completed its funding from Northeast Consortium in November 2005. Currently the project is seeking more funding in order to expand it's range and keep the promising data set growing. The last final report submitted to NEC is here for your viewing. Click this link and you will be brought to a PDF of the document.
